Our School

We work in partnership with families, building community around raising our children to be active participants in creating a healthier, kinder world.
The first Montessori school—the Casa dei Bambini, or Children’s House—was opened by Dr. Maria Montessori in Rome on January 6, 1907. There are now more than 22,000 Montessori schools in at least 110 countries worldwide. Little Thinkers Montessori was founded over a hundred years after Dr. Montessori’s first school in 2012. We are currently the only Montessori school in the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Serah Kaiel, the Directress, was educated in Montessori schools and raised by a mother who was a Montessori teacher. For her, Montessori has always felt like home. Creating an Montessori environment in Brooklyn where children can not only learn and grow, but thrive has been a priority from the beginning. Working in partnership with families and creating community around raising children to be active participants in creating a healthier, kinder world mirrors Dr. Montessori’s goals and views towards world peace.
“The Aborbent Mind” is one of the most famous books Dr. Montessori wrote and goes into great detail about how children absorb information from the world around them and essentially teach themselves. Little Thinkers is proud to be a part of the Montessori community both locally and worldwide. Our Staff and students come from one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Brooklyn and are actively working towards building a brighter future one child at a time.
Our teachers are both AMS and AMI certified.

The Montessori Method
Little Thinkers Montessori preschool curriculum is individualized, multi-aged, and thoughtfully guided to match each student’s needs.
Montessori is a worldwide educational philosophy that advocates for every child’s exploration and self discovery through the experiential process. Each child becomes encouraged to become active rather than passive learners.
At LTM we believe in the “whole child” approach. The primary goal of our Montessori program is to help each child reach their full potential in all areas of life. Activities promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation. The holistic curriculum, under the direction of specially prepared teachers, allows the child to experience the joy of learning, time to enjoy the process and insure the development of self-esteem, and provides the experiences from which children create their knowledge.
Music, art, storytelling, movement and drama are an integral part of our curriculum as well as other things particular to the Montessori environment that encourage creative development: many materials that stimulate interest and involvement; an emphasis on the sensory aspect of experience; and the opportunity for both verbal and nonverbal modes of learning.
The staff at LTM respects each child’s learning style and academic, emotional and physical needs. Each child has the opportunity to work at an individual pace, to explore personal interests, while at the same time, develop skills in how to collaborate, learn from, and teach others.
By observing the children in the prepared environment, we can see that we are successful when we see a confident student, ready to explore, creatively problem solve and express concern and empathy for others.

Our Mission
“Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.” – Dr. Maria Montessori.
The Little Thinkers child learns through the academic and experiential process, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, and influenced by the culturally diverse atmosphere of Brooklyn, students learn to care for and respect themselves, others and the earth.
Students in the early childhood program acquire tools for individual fulfillment, academic excellence, physical, social, and moral development, as well as confidence and independence for lifelong learning.
The curriculum is focused on promoting world peace through diversity and also has a huge emphasis on healthy lifestyles and green living.
